Flow
Flow is a portable lung drainage device which uses active vacuum technology to extract fluid build up from the lung.
Flows design was inspired from observing a close friend experience the trauma and distress caused by existing portable lung drainage systems.
Fluid is drawn through the drain line into a frosted carry ring vacuum bottle. This allows the fluid level to be visible, whilst obscuring the contents of the extracted fluid from the patient. It is the shape of existing collection vessels and the ability to view the exudate that is most distressing for the patient.
Designed with the patient in mind, Flows ergonomic components allow intuitive interaction with minimal user input.
The unique electronic monitoring system records the date, time elapsed and quantity of fluid drained, allowing for a more comfortable experience. This information is visible from a small LCD display located on the top face of the regulator. The data is sent via Bluetooth to a smart phone or other Bluetooth enabled device.
Flow has been 3D printed from white and clear Formlab resins. If mass produced for use, Flow would be manufactured from PVC (polyvinyl chloride).
